Before we talk AC replacement, should you repair your unit?
Sometimes yes. If the AC system is newer and the failure is isolated, repair is often the smarter call and we’ll tell you that upfront. We’re not going to push air conditioning replacement on a system that has years left in it. We offer AC repair too.
But a few situations shift the math.
R-22 refrigerant is one. U.S. production and import ended January 1, 2020. What’s left is reclaimed supply, and availability affects cost in ways that compound over time. If your system runs on R-22, that’s a real factor in the repair-versus-replace conversation.
Comfort problems that never fully go away are another. Hot rooms. Humidity that never feels right. A system that short-cycles constantly. ENERGY STAR notes oversized systems cycle too frequently and shorten equipment life. Sometimes people have been living with a badly sized system for years and just assumed that’s how AC works. It isn’t.
Duct losses are quietly responsible for a lot of comfort complaints too. ENERGY STAR estimates 20 to 30 percent of conditioned air can be lost through leaks and poor connections in a typical duct system. New equipment doesn’t fix bad ducts. We evaluate ductwork as part of every installation and give you a straight read on what we find.
And if you’ve repaired the same system three times in two years without getting reliable performance back… that’s a pattern worth looking at honestly.
What we actually do during Air Conditioning installation
The work starts before we pick any equipment. In-home evaluation first, cooling demands, existing equipment condition, duct system, comfort complaints, all of it. Manual J sizing. Equipment options with written pricing attached. Our No Surprise Guarantee means what you approve is what you pay. Any additional work requires written authorization before we proceed.
Refrigerant charge gets confirmed at installation, not estimated. EPA Section 608 requires certified technicians for refrigerant handling. Proper charge affects both efficiency and how long the system lasts. We don’t skip this.
Placement matters too. Clearance, noise, access for future maintenance. These decisions get made intentionally, not as an afterthought.
After the system is running we do a commissioning check, verify airflow, and walk you through how the system operates, what maintenance looks like, and what the warranty covers. You shouldn’t have to guess at any of that.
Which HVAC system is right
Depends on your home and what you’re trying to solve.
Central AC split systems are the most common path. Replacing indoor and outdoor components together ensures you actually get the rated efficiency. Mismatched components, like a new outdoor unit paired with a 20-year-old air handler, don’t perform the way the spec sheet says.
Heat pumps handle both heating and cooling from one system. Austin winters are mild enough that the efficiency math often works in their favor. Worth considering if you’re open to it.
Variable capacity systems run at lower speeds for longer cycles instead of blasting on and off all day. Better humidity control, more stable temperatures, more noticeable comfort difference than most people expect. They cost more. For a lot of homeowners it’s been worth it.
Ductless AC & mini-splits are the right answer for additions, converted spaces, sunrooms, garages. Not usually the right whole-home solution, but for isolated problem areas nothing beats them.
Cost, rebates, financing
Written estimates before anything starts. That’s not a policy we advertise, it’s just how we operate.
Current Limited time offers and coupons live on our Specials page. Those change, so don’t rely on whatever number you saw somewhere else. Financing is available subject to approved credit. Federal tax credits and utility rebates may apply depending on the equipment. We’ll tell you what’s available and what documentation you need to claim it.
Shield Membership
Two HVAC tune-ups a year, 48-hour priority service, 20% off ac repairs, no diagnostic fee, loyalty credits toward future ac replacement. $14.95 a month or $179 for the year. If you just spent real money on a new system, this is how you protect it.

Questions we hear a lot
How much does AC installation cost?
Depends on system size, efficiency rating, duct condition, electrical requirements, scope of replacement. Written estimate before work starts. Check the Coupons page for current offers.
Do I need new ductwork?
Not automatically. But we evaluate it because airflow losses directly affect how the new system performs. If there’s a problem we’ll show you what it is.
Rebates and tax credits?
Depends on the equipment. We’ll walk you through what applies and what documentation qualifying systems require.
